Lack of coordination – the chaos in the federal government is causing trouble in Brussels

The behavior of the federal government rarely seems coordinated to the partners in Brussels.

Berlin, Brussels Diplomats in Brussels are shocked. There is talk of a “breach of trust”. The question is what agreements with Germany are worth. Such behavior is expected at most from Hungary’s Prime Minister Viktor Orbán.

What happened? Actually, the vote of the EU countries on the end of new combustion vehicles from 2035 was scheduled for March 7th. Germany’s approval was considered a formality. But then Federal Transport Minister Volker Wissing (FDP) called for exceptions for combustion engines that use synthetic fuels, so-called e-fuels. The vote had to be postponed at short notice, Berlin had alienated its EU partners. Not for the first time.
