Kitchen Impossible: Tim Mälzer smokes noble restaurant – TV

With that he squandered his victory.

50 episodes “Kitchen Impossible”. That means: TV chef Tim Mälzer (51) has already traveled 50 times with his gourmet challengers to cook regional dishes and get the most points.

For the anniversary episode on Sunday evening, Mälzer was accordingly in a celebratory mood, wanting to achieve a brilliant triumph over his opponent, the Israeli star chef Haya Molcho (66). He had already won against them before and was confident of victory: “You will hate it. It won’t be so nice this time.”

However, Molcho did not intend to have the butter taken from the bread and countered: “Tim, you are a Schmock. Schmock is a tail.” The Yiddish swear word didn’t affect Mälzer at all, he continued: “I was upset like at the city derby when I was still a hooligan from Pinneberg.”

Almost shipwreck in Austria

When the first challenge went to Austria, the TV chef was suddenly subdued. He complained about the cold and wet weather and worried about his hair: “Hair is shit again because of the shitty weather.”

In Baden, Austria, he was welcomed by Andreas Pohlodek, Haya’s best friend and sailing instructor, who picked him up in a boat. And the moaning continued. Mälzer grumbled: “It’s even windier out there on the water!” Nevertheless, he dared to take the helm – and almost caused a disaster. The boat tipped dangerously to the side, Andreas had to intervene: “It is important that you please stay on course!”

It worked better with the cooking: After preparing a Yemeni beef stew, the maltster got an average of 6.7 points in contrast to the 6.2 points that Haya cooked in Mainz.

Smoking disaster in the “Boathouse”

The next tour then took the TV chef to the “Bootshaus” restaurant in the Salzkammergut, where Mälzer first had a good glass of champagne: “I’m in a really good mood.”

Despite his dangerous last boat tour, this time there was a round with the motorboat, and Mälzer felt like a Hollywood star: “What’s the name of the current James Bond? That’s how I feel right now, only in fat.” He didn’t see his license to cook in jeopardy. Smoked lake trout? For the Pinneberger actually a piece of cake: “We North Germans love to smoke!”

But even the preparation of the rhubarb broth pushed the self-confident restaurateur to his limits. As he tasted his creation, he gagged and gasped dramatically. And then the fish and poultry stock burned! Star chef Lukas Nagl (34) already saw his kitchen in danger: “It’s an alcohol reduction, it’s burnt. The smell is extremely disgusting and rather difficult to wash off.”

Two hours of work were wasted, time was running out for Mälzer. But he still had to smoke the trout, and the chef decided to take action with consequences. To save time, he decided to smoke the fish in the middle of the stove: “You can either do that in a smoker in a small bowl, or you can do it on the stove by messing up a pot, forever.”

But not only the pot was messed up. The rising smoke caused Mälzer to cough and Nagl even more concerned about his restaurant: “Tim almost set off a fire alarm when he was smoking. The whole kitchen was smoking!”

When water got on the smoked fish, Mälzer saw his skins swimming away: “It still tastes pissy on it.”

After all, there were still 5.5 points for this disaster in the end, but Mälzer was no longer able to beat Haya Molcho. Although she has an aversion to snails, she prepared them in Baiersbronn in Baden-Württemberg so tasty that she scored 7.2 points. She defeated Tim Mälzer, who lamented deeply disappointed: “This is my anniversary show!”
