Berlin, Dusseldorf After the controversial KfW funding freeze for energy-efficient buildings, North Rhine-Westphalia, Bavaria and Brandenburg are demanding a special building ministers’ conference between the federal states and the federal government. The “hiccup” must be ended immediately, said NRW building minister Ina Scharrenbach on Thursday.

“The funding freeze threatens construction projects across the country, unsettles owners and ultimately causes rent increases.” The freeze must be withdrawn or a quick alternative must be found that is equivalent to the previous KfW funding, demanded the CDU politician.

In a letter to the chair of the conference of construction ministers, Baden-Württemberg’s department head Nicole Razavi (CDU), the three states ask for a special conference to be convened “at very short notice” and for the invitation of Federal Construction Minister Klara Geywitz (SPD). “The current decision of the federal government torpedoes the affordability of housing, the measures in public housing and privately financed housing throughout the Federal Republic of Germany,” it says. Important construction projects are about to come to an end.
