London At the pump of the Shell petrol station in South West London it says “Sorry, out of order”. Driver Rowan is frustrated: “It’s the fourth gas station that has no gas.” It’s eight o’clock on Tuesday morning. The Honda driver has 100 miles of fuel left, but he wants to refuel just to be on the safe side. He needs the car for work. The gas station attendant explains that he “has no idea” when the next delivery will come.
At the BP petrol station a few blocks away, the woman at the cash register says: “We don’t know when we’ll get supplies. Try Sainsbury’s ”. Cars line up in front of the supermarket chain’s petrol station. “I cannot guarantee that there will be enough for everyone,” says the man who shows the cars. “Best to stand in the back.”
