“Joe Biden is in danger of failure”

Düssel Even as a young researcher, Francis Fukuyama drew attention to himself with an almost daring thesis. The American political scientist postulated nothing less than the “end of history” and the ultimate triumph of democracy after the collapse of the Soviet Union.

History should prove the 69-year-old Stanford professor wrong: With increasing success, autocratic regimes such as China and Russia are offering themselves as alternative systems. “The greatest danger, however, threatens the democracies from within,” said the Stanford professor today. Growing populism and a misunderstood concept of freedom are the cause.

Joe Biden’s presidency is also critical of Fukuyama: the Americans do not want “big government”, for a social democratization of the USA, as Roosevelt once did, his mandate is far too weak. Fukuyama believes that Donald Trump’s re-election in 2024 is possible, which would be a “disaster” for American democracy.
