Milan According to an insider, Italy’s former Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi has been diagnosed with leukemia. The person familiar with the matter confirmed a report from the newspaper “Corriere della Sera” on Thursday.

Initially, there was no statement from those close to Berlusconi. The 86-year-old was admitted to the intensive care unit of a Milan hospital on Wednesday with breathing problems.

However, according to Italy’s Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani, Berlusconi’s condition is stable. Tajani, the deputy head of Berlusconi’s Forza Italia party, said on Italian television on Thursday morning that he had called the 86-year-old’s doctor. Berlusconi spent a “quiet night”. “We hope that Löwe will return soon. He never gives up,” said Tajani. “We remain optimistic.”

According to media reports, his children, his partner and his brother Paolo visited him in the hospital on Wednesday. When leaving the clinic, the brother said to journalists: “His condition is stable, he is a rock.”

Berlusconi was released last Thursday after a four-day stay in that clinic. Officially, there was talk of routine examinations at the time. According to reports, Berlusconi has already been treated for cardiovascular problems.
