Is The Claim That There Are 6 People Behind Bitcoin (BTC) True? CoinShares Answered!

The most well-known active Bitcoin (BTC) One of its developers, Wladimir van der Laan, recently lost access to Bitcoin Core GitHub’s repository.

However, the Wall Street Journal shared an article on the subject that the fate of BTC is in the hands of only a few developers.

CoinShares research director James Butterfill spoke about this claim and responded to the discourse that Bitcoin Core software is central.

“Bitcoin Is Not Controlled By Six People”

Butterfill said in his article that there is no such thing as BTC being controlled by 6 developers.

He emphasized that any developer with a GitHub account can propose changes to Bitcoin Core, a client software for the BTC network. Each proposal goes through rigorous review procedures that take several months. Even the actions of the main developers themselves are subject to these scrutiny.

Butterfill describes the duties of BTC master developers as follows:

“Developers perform critical checks to ensure patches are secure and aligned with project goals. However, the development process does not depend only on these 6 people. Instead, Bitcoin Core’s development and approval process is driven by a large and diverse group of participants who work together to ensure the software remains secure, reliable and up-to-date.”

In addition, Butterfill said that about 300 developers are actively working on BTC:

“Over the past month, 29 developers have made 177 edits for the main distribution and 184 for all distributions excluding merges. It is estimated that Bitcoin Github has around 300 active developers/participants in 1,000 separate repositories, making it a very large and active developer environment.”
