Will more Russian soldiers be deployed in the Ukraine war soon?

Western intelligence services and the Ukrainian military leadership assume that Russian President Vladimir Putin could officially declare war on Ukraine on Victory Day, May 9th.

That would enable the Kremlin to further escalate hostilities, order a mass mobilization, call up reservists, and quickly deploy tens of thousands more soldiers in the neighboring country.

The government in Moscow could initially want to call up more than 60,000 of them, says a senior US military official who asked not to be named. It was unclear where the soldiers would be deployed. According to the London-based Institute for Strategic Studies (ISS), there are more than a million active soldiers and two million reservists in Russia.
