The European Union, taking into account the concerns of the USA, Huawei and other Chinese companies will make new decisions. European states want to impose a mandatory ban by examining companies that pose potential security risks to their 5G networks.
European Union wants to remove Huawei and ZTE from 5G networks
A previous decision by the European Commission was addressing countries’ removal of high-risk 5G companies such as Huawei from the core telecommunications network. However, when it was seen that only one-third of countries implemented these bans, it was decided to take a more strict approach.
EU Internal Market Officer Thierry Breton met with the communication ministers of the states at a meeting that took place recently. Accordingly, only one-third of EU countries reported banning Huawei in key areas. This statement shows that a mandatory ban may be on the way.

In fact, it is not surprising that the European Commission has such an approach. The US has already removed Huawei from its 5G networks. In addition, Germany plans to ban certain parts of Chinese companies such as Huawei and ZTE in its telecom network.
The EU wants to take a more ambitious decision by placing a mandatory ban on companies identified as posing a security risk. However, it should be noted that the decision will be limited to 5G networks only, and other operations of Huawei and ZTE will continue in Europe.
The EU-planned mandatory ban follows Huawei’s allegations of ties to the Chinese government. To date, Huawei has denied these claims many times, saying that the data is not shared with China.
