After WWDC 2023, many new features have been announced for iOS 17. In fact, the public beta version of iOS 17 was released recently. Google also presented Beta 4, the last beta version of Android 14, to users. Before the final versions are released, new information about operating systems continues to come. So much so that with iOS 17 and Android 14, we may come across many new emojis.
Here are the new emojis coming with iOS 17 and Android 14!
With World Emoji Day happening on Monday, July 17th, Emojipedia has released images of some new emojis that may soon be at users’ fingertips. These include limes, a horizontally moving ‘no’ head, a vertically moving ‘yes’ head, the legendary Phoenix bird, and four gender-neutral family emojis.
With these emojis, the number of more than 3600 emojis available is also expected to increase. The list of new emoji candidates in Emoji 15.1 expands when you factor in the various skin tones and gender variants. Let us also remind you that the emoji images you see on Emojipedia are not final designs. So companies can make changes according to their own designs before adding these emojis.
The examples were created by Joshua Jones, Head of Emoji Design at Emojipedia, inspired by the Apple emoji set. It is the responsibility of each company, such as Apple and Google, to make design changes. There will be 108 new emojis that indicate a particular direction. All of them will come from the six available person emojis: Person Walking, Person Running, Person Kneeling, Person with White Stick, Person in Wheelchair, and Person in Power Wheelchair.

While designs aren’t final and can be changed by vendors like Apple and Google, it’s unusual for an emoji to be rejected when it’s ready to be approved. After being approved by Unicode in September, emojis are being developed for use with iOS and Android. Eventually, they will ship as part of a software update.
However, these updates are not usually released immediately. For example, Apple updated its emoji inventory with the release of iOS 16.4 last March. So while the new emojis will be confirmed in September, they may not be released for iOS right away. While iOS 17 is expected to be released in September, around the time new iPhone models are introduced, Apple usually waits for an update once the new version is available.
