Frankfort, New York At the beginning of the week, US investors were also concerned about drastic interest rate hikes and their consequences for the economy. The Dow Jones index of blue chips and the broader S&P 500 fell by up to a percent on Monday but were able to partially stem losses during trading. The Dow closed 0.6 percent lower at 32,098 points. The broad S&P 500 lost 0.7 percent to 4030 points. The tech-heavy Nasdaq fell one percent to 12,017 points.
At the central bank symposium in Jackson Hole on Friday, US Federal Reserve Chairman Jerome Powell prepared the financial markets for a longer series of significant interest rate hikes, sending the stock markets into a downward slide.
