Lost £140000 worth of altcoins

The victim’s friend said in a Reddit post yesterday that hackers stole Ethereum coins and other cryptocurrencies that amounted to hundreds of thousands of pounds from the trader’s wallet. The investor, who has a computer science degree and has made a fortune by trading crypto, said he accidentally clicked on a Google ad for his MetaMask wallet. The victim was redirected to a site with an almost exact copy of the Official website and entered their information. Before they even knew what had happened, the scammers got away with £140,000 in virtual cash. Fortunately, this was just one of many wallets he owned, and the scammers got away with 38 ETH and the remaining amount. Worse still, it took so long for MetaMask to help and support him, and the scammers successfully disappeared with the funds. Reddit user made an important warning for other traders:

Please be vigilant. Don’t be complacent. Do not click on any Google ad search suggestions under any circumstances. Part of our responsibility with cryptocurrencies is self-management. If this is to replace the current banking system, we need to understand how important it is to keep our wallets and private keys safe.

MetaMask is a cryptocurrency wallet where users can interact with Ethereum. MetaMask has a community of over one million users. The scam has allegedly been around since at least December 2020. Contacted Google for advice.
