Munday, announced at Purdue University, suggested that if that paint was applied to 1 to 2 percent of the earth’s surface, it could reduce the amount of heat reaching the planet’s surface by reflecting more of the sunlight hitting the earth, which could be a solution to the problem of global warming.
Munday also stated in an interview with the New York Times that the light reflected back into space would not do much harm. He explained it as, ‘This is pouring a glass of water into the ocean. The total surface area of the Earth is about 197 million square miles, mostly made up of water areas.
The area required to cover 1-2 percent of it is 2-4 million square miles. To better understand the size of this area, we can say that the total land area of the United States is just over 3.5 million square miles.
