Raja M. Koduri, Senior Vice President and General Manager of the Accelerated Computing Systems and Graphics (AXG) Group at Intel, stated in a previous announcement:
Today, Intel is announcing our intention to contribute to the development of Blockchain technologies with the roadmap of energy efficient accelerators. Intel will enable and promote an open and secure Blockchain ecosystem and help this technology progress in a responsible-sustainable manner.
We are aware that some blockchains require enormous amounts of computing power. This unfortunately means an enormous amount of energy. Our customers want scalable and sustainable solutions. That’s why we focus our efforts on realizing the full potential of Blockchain by developing the most energy efficient computing technologies at scale.
To support emerging technology, a new Special Processing Group has been established in Intel’s Accelerated Computing Systems and Graphics business unit. The goal of this team is to create custom silicon platforms optimized for clients’ workloads, including Blockchain and other special accelerated supercomputing opportunities.
Evaluating Bitcoin’s notoriety for energy during a recent interview, Gelsinger stated that a single ledger entry in Bitcoin consumes almost enough energy to power your home for a day, and this is an important factor in triggering the climate crisis.
Stating that as Intel, they act with the motto of shaping technology as a force for good, Gelsinger stated that when Bitcoin technology is used for bad purposes, it will cause a climate crisis, but this does not mean that it is not a good technology.
