London – The days are getting shorter, the weather dingy and you start dreaming for a warm place you long for in winter …
There is definitely something there! The travel publisher “Lonely Planet” has now presented the top 10 goals for 2022. The Cook Islands in the South Pacific north-east of New Zealand, one of the smallest countries in the world, with their remoteness and state independence hold their own in the coveted first place of travel destinations for 2022, while Norway occupies second and Mauritius third.
Every year, the Lonely Planet’s Best in Travel lists are compiled with nominations from employees of the publisher, authors, bloggers, publishing partners and others. A jury of travel experts then selects ten countries, ten regions and ten cities.
The Westfjords in Iceland were selected as the top region this year, a region of the island state untouched by mass tourism, in which the municipalities work together to protect and promote their spectacular landscapes.
Second in the selection is West Virginia (USA), followed by Xingshuabanna in China.
In terms of cities, the New Zealand city of Auckland also came top, followed by the Taiwanese capital and Freiburg im Breisgau.
