Ice hockey tournament in Füssen – Will Julia Zorn shoot us to the Olympics? – Sports mix

She was one of the greatest talents in hockey goal. Played in this position Julia Zorn (31) at the U18 World Cup, and also at A international matches, it was already in the cold box.

But from Thursday to Sunday she wants to shoot the German women’s national team at the qualifying tournament in Füssen for the Olympics – Miss Goalie has retrained to be a striker.

The reason for their blatant change of position: boredom!

Zorn, who has just become German champion for the eighth time with the ESC Planegg: “It was because we got relatively good in the league with Planegg and I had the feeling that I couldn’t contribute to our success.”

At some point she just didn’t have enough to do. The goals were scored in the front, and there was hardly a puck on their goal in the back.

But of course the conversion didn’t work right away: “These are two completely different things. It was a transition phase of two years where I was a bit of a goalkeeper and a bit of a player. During the time when I was one hundred percent a player, I suddenly found myself in a situation where I had to fight for my place, ”she says.

As a goalie, Zorn was firmly established, no longer on the field. She recalls: “At the beginning I watched a lot. But then I was able to develop and establish myself well. “

The native Graefelfinger has more fun scoring goals than preventing them.

Zorn: “I think it’s cool that I can dash around and that my range of motion has increased.”

She became so good that she was a striker at the 2014 Olympics in Sochi (Russia) and then also became the captain of the national team. Now Zorn wants to lead our team to the Olympics in Beijing (February 4th to 20th, 2022).

On Thursday (5.15 p.m.) it is up against Austria, on Saturday (12 p.m.) against Italy and on Sunday (12 p.m.) Denmark is waiting. Only the first in the tournament is in China. All games can be seen live at Magenta Sport.
