İBB’s Domestic Train: Tram34! (Exclusive interview with Ekrem İmamoğlu)

The rail system projects of Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality continue. They are working to revitalize the Duran metro constructions, open new lines and operate Turkey’s largest urban rail system. In addition, they aim to offer superior technology and innovative solutions by realizing the vehicle project, for which millions of dollars have been invested but abandoned, at affordable costs. We talked about TRAM34 with İBB President Ekrem İmamoğlu. We talked about TRAM34 with İBB President Ekrem İmamoğlu.

Metro Istanbul also designs and manufactures many subsystems, along with the light metro vehicles it produces in its own R&D center and under its own brand. As a monorail system operator that not only uses high technology but can also produce this technology, they transform their knowledge and experience into production. Metro Istanbul creates employment as a dream base for Turkish engineers and develops the domestic sub-industry.

Metro Istanbul, as the rail system operator with the only active registered R&D Center in Turkey, is implementing its first rail system vehicle production project within the scope of the Industry Cooperation Program (SIP). With 34 years of knowledge and experience, Metro Istanbul produces trains with 12 different brands and 20 different models at 30 percent more cost. All these productions are carried out with 100 percent domestic design and 100 percent domestic engineers.

Within the scope of the rail system breakthroughs of the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality, Metro Istanbul continues its studies on domestic and national production. In this context, it has designed the TRAM34 model, which can produce at a higher locality rate and more cost-effectively, by evaluating the feedback received from 18 4th generation tram vehicles still used on the T4 Topkapı-Mescidi Selam Tram Line.

TRAM34 was designed in Turkey and its intellectual and industrial property rights are fully owned by Metro Istanbul. The vehicle, which has a locality rate of over 60 percent, is 24 meters long and 2.65 meters wide, and has a capacity of 216 passengers. The vehicle, which can be used on both tram and light metro lines, can reach 40 kilometers at operating speed and up to 80 kilometers at maximum.

TRAM34, with its comfort-enhancing details such as specially designed rubber wheels and interior sound barriers, meets the needs of both passengers and business and technical teams. It also has the ability to climb on ramp slopes where metro and tram vehicles have difficulty. This domestic and national production of Metro Istanbul was designed by Turkish engineers and technicians and produced in accordance with mass production.
