Berlin The coalition negotiations are entering the decisive phase. The SPD, Greens and FDP are talking about the most contentious issues this week. And thus also about financial policy.

The traffic light is in a dilemma. She plans high investments and needs a lot of money for social issues, but wants to hold on to the debt brake. How is that supposed to work? Not clear. The negotiators will look all the more closely at a proposal that Lars Feld, former chairman of the “Wirtschaftsweise”, brings into play with members of the council headed by Secretary General Wolf Reuter.

In a study of the traffic light, Feld suggests several ways in which it can gain more financial leeway. “There is enough money to transform the economy without having to outsmart the debt brake,” says Feld.
