Berlin So far, one thing in particular has emerged from the coalition negotiations: The atmosphere is good, the talks are running smoothly. That is obviously over. The negotiations for a traffic light government are not progressing as quickly as the SPD, Greens and FDP had hoped.
According to negotiators, the three parties decided not to publish a further detailed timetable on Thursday after an interim review of the negotiations in the 22 working groups. “We are currently seeing too little progress in terms of the substance of the content,” said Greens federal manager Michael Kellner in Berlin.
Now there are great fears that the tight schedule will no longer be able to be adhered to. One negotiator complains that it was put on too tightly from the start. Whether the SPD politician Scholz could actually be elected Chancellor at the beginning of December remains to be seen.
For this, the negotiations have to be concluded in the second half of November. The plan so far provides that all working groups finish their work by November 10th and leave open conflicts to a closer exploratory group. But apparently the trenches are already big.

Reuters had already reported on Wednesday that there are initial dissonances between the parties and also tensions, for example within the Greens, about the climate protection course. Numerous negotiators had stated that the more detailed discussions would come to difficult points, some of which could not yet be resolved.
This affected areas as diverse as climate protection, finances, dealing with Poland or nuclear participation. The responsibility for this was seen by representatives of the three parties with the other parties. Nevertheless, all those questioned also emphasized on Thursday that they are still relying on an agreement. It is normal that there will be difficult issues in view of the different election programs of the SPD, FDP and Greens.
If it was said before the negotiations that the FDP would have to go the longest way for the traffic lights in terms of content, many negotiators now see the Greens in a bind. Behind the scenes there is a lot of displeasure that no progress is being made on core green issues. If the finance ministry goes to the FDP, it is said that the Greens would only have four long years left to break their election promises.
With a liberal treasurer, the expensive climate protection projects simply cannot be implemented in the form that many at the grassroots of the Greens imagine.
