The country’s central bank said in a statement in Spanish:

“Bitcoin is currently not regulated in our country. The Central Bank of Honduras is the only institution in Honduras that can issue legitimate currency, and that legitimate currency is Lempira only.”

The country’s statement was made in response to rumors on Twitter that Honduran president Xiomara Castro will announce Bitcoin as the legitimate currency in the country, similar to what El Salvador did last summer.
