High spirits in the market for IPOs

Frankfurt Despite the corona crisis, the IPO market is in a record mood this year. Because 2021 is the strongest year for Initial Public Offerings (IPOS) worldwide since the turn of the millennium, both in terms of number of issues and volume.

After a strong fourth quarter, 2388 newcomers to the stock exchange were counted worldwide this year – 64 percent more than in 2020. The global issuing volume climbed 67 percent to 453 billion dollars, according to the latest analysis by the auditing and consulting firm EY (Ernst & Young) .

The strongest growth was registered in Europe. Here the number of IPOs has more than doubled from 191 to 485, the issue volume has almost tripled to 81 billion dollars. Most of the IPOs were registered again in China (including Hong Kong), but there the IPO development in the second half of the year was weaker than in the previous year.
