Hellofresh defies restaurant competition and jumps in sales

Dusseldorf The recipe box mail order company Hellofresh tried to expand into new business areas and markets through acquisitions in the past financial year. In the USA, for example, the Dax group took over Factor, a delivery service for ready meals, and Youfoodz in Australia. The growth is correspondingly turbulent: In the past year, sales grew by 61.5 percent to almost six billion euros.

But a new participation raises questions in view of the Russian invasion of Ukraine. For example, Hellofresh holds ten percent of the Russian meal kit mail order company Chefmarket.ru. When presenting the annual figures on Tuesday, Hellofresh boss Dominik Richter clearly tried to downplay this commitment and not let it spoil his joy at the good results.

It’s just a very small investment, he stressed, and Hellofresh is just a passive investor. The value of that stake hasn’t improved over the past few days, he acknowledged, but the impact on the business is very limited.
