Tesla car prices hiked due to inflation and shortage of raw materials

Tesla is announcing a hike in car prices for the second time this month. Last week, we saw a thousand dollars increase in some long-range vehicle packages. However, this time, the base prices of all vehicles increased.

The starting price of the Tesla Model 3 was $46,990 as of last week. With the last hike, it increased by 2 thousand dollars and reached 48 thousand 990 dollars. The twin-engine and four-wheel drive option of the same vehicle was sold for $54,490. Its price increased by 2 thousand 500 dollars and reached 56 thousand 990 dollars. In addition, the performance package, which had a price tag of $ 6 thousand 990, increased by $ 3 thousand to $ 9 thousand 990.

Similarly, the price of Model Y increased from $ 60 thousand 990 to $ 62 thousand 990. The performance package was also increased by 3 thousand dollars. In addition, Tesla raised $5,000 for both Model S versions. However, starting prices have increased to $99,990. But the real thing now happened in the Model X. The price of the vehicle, which was sold for 104 thousand 990 dollars, increased to 114 thousand 990 dollars with a 10 thousand dollar increase.

Although Tesla made these hikes without sharing an announcement, CEO Elon Musk has been giving signals of this hike for a while in his Twitter posts about Tesla car prices and SpaceX costs.

Elon Musk says that there are many reasons for this high price increase, from Russia’s war on Ukraine to global and US-wide inflation, from raw material supply problems to the chip crisis.

But if we look specifically, the main reason behind this price increase is that nickel prices, a critical component of lithium-ion batteries, almost doubled after Russia’s war with Ukraine.
