Handelsblatt Green: What is the real benefit of saving energy?

Dusseldorf The war in Ukraine has shown many homeowners how vulnerable their energy supply is. Natural gas and oil prices have multiplied in recent months. The majority of Germans are affected by this: every second house in this country is heated with natural gas. About another quarter still bet on oil.

Both energy sources are not subsidized in Germany to any significant extent – which is why the Germans are almost defenseless at the mercy of the price fluctuations on the global energy markets. Anyone who builds their own home today will therefore think twice about how they position themselves energetically. The ideal picture: an energy self-sufficient house that supplies itself independently and reliably with energy.

But what does this energy self-sufficient house look like? How can you renovate an existing property in such a way that it comes as close as possible to this ideal? And how much does it all cost? In this episode, Timo Leukefeld, an expert in energy self-sufficient construction, and Christian Handwerk, consultant for energy-efficient construction at the North Rhine-Westphalia Consumer Advice Center, will talk about this.
