Dusseldorf According to media reports, Federal Minister of Economics Robert Habeck wants to keep the two southern German nuclear power plants Isar 2 and Neckarwestheim 2 connected to the grid as a reserve until the end of the year. They should form an operational reserve for security of supply by mid-April, reports the magazine “Spiegel” on Monday.
According to “Spiegel”, they could stabilize the network in certain stressful situations. This is also the result of a stress test commissioned by the ministry. However, the third remaining nuclear power plant in Emsland could be shut down as planned at the end of the year. The nuclear phase-out as regulated in the Atomic Energy Act will remain so.
