Habeck and Lindner argue about the federal budget

Berlin Budget planning caused a heated argument between Finance Minister Christian Lindner (FDP) and Vice Chancellor Robert Habeck (Greens). On behalf of the Greens, the Economics Minister sharply rejects the budget cuts demanded by Lindner. The Minister of Finance also responded with a letter of reply that was unusual in tone.

“Dear Mr. Colleague,” Habeck begins his letter to Lindner, “I am writing to you on behalf of the ministries led by the Greens.”

The background to the dispute is the current list of benchmark figures for next year’s budget. Finance Minister Lindner is confronted with long wish lists from his cabinet colleagues.
