Good News For Bitcoin Miners From Iran!

The Iranian government banned mining activities in the country, saying that Bitcoin mining caused the power outages in the country during the summer months.

It was announced by former President Hassan Rouhani that Bitcoin mining was suspended for 4 months, on the grounds that energy consumption increased due to the extreme heat in the summer months.

Despite the ban on Bitcoin mining, the electricity shortage in the country continued, and the vice president said in his statements that the interruptions continued due to the activities of illegal miners.

Former president Rouhani confirmed the words of the vice president, saying that legal miners consume only 30 megawatts (MW) of power, while illegal miners consume 2,000 MW.

In the official statement from the Iranian government, it was announced to the public that the mining ban, which lasted for 4 months, was lifted.

Licensed miners in the country can now continue their mining activities without any restrictions.

With a regulation in 2019, the Iranian government made it a condition for businesses that will do crypto mining to get permission from the Ministry of Industry and to pay the energy they consume according to their export rates.

As of August, there are only 30 licensed mining enterprises in the country, while 85% of the miners in the country are operating illegally.
