The National Association of Statutory Health Insurance (GKV) has called for huge investments and reforms for long-term care insurance from the traffic light parties. “The problems are so serious that they can no longer tolerate delay,” said the vice-chairman of the National Association of Statutory Health Insurance Funds, Gernot Kiefer, the Handelsblatt. “Not acting is not an option.”

It is undisputed that sufficiently qualified and better paid staff is a prerequisite for good care. “For this, long-term care insurance will need many new billions from a possible traffic light government in the coming years.”

Financing what is necessary from the tax pot is as right for climate protection as it is for the humane care of the elderly. The structural problems must also finally be resolved. “There is a lot to be done – for example with the finances of the long-term care insurance, the increasing personal contributions and the conditions for caregivers,” said Kiefer.
