“Germany risks becoming dependent on its neighbors”: Paris criticizes German energy policy

France’s Energy Minister Agnès Pannier-Runacher has sharply criticized Germany’s energy policy. “It is a contradiction on the one hand to massively import French nuclear power and on the other hand to reject any text and any legislation in the EU that recognizes the added value of this low-carbon form of energy,” Pannier-Runacher told Handelsblatt. “Germany risks becoming more and more dependent on its neighbors for nuclear energy.”

French electricity deliveries to Germany have increased sharply since mid-April. According to experts, it is not possible to say with certainty whether and to what extent this development is connected to the shutdown of the last three German nuclear power plants on April 15. However, the latest trend raises the question of whether Germany will have to rely more on electricity supplies from abroad in the future.
