Dusseldorf Intel is building a 450 hectare semiconductor factory in Magdeburg for 17 billion euros, in which 10,000 people are to work in the future. It is the largest settlement of a company in the Federal Republic since reunification. But this major project cannot hide the fact that fewer and fewer companies are moving to Germany.
Last year, foreign companies announced even fewer investment projects in Germany than in the previous year. The number fell by one percent to a total of 832 projects. That’s as few as it was a decade ago.
In contrast, in France, the number of investment projects rose 3 percent to 1,259, after growing 24 percent the year before. Despite Brexit, even Great Britain is ahead of Germany.
