Berlin The Chairwoman of the Defense Committee of the Bundestag, Marie-Agnes Strack-Zimmermann (FDP), is in favor of making Marder infantry fighting vehicles, Fuchs armored transport vehicles and Leopard battle tanks available to Ukraine quickly. “We should stop adopting the Russian narrative that tank deliveries would provoke a new stage of the conflict,” the MP told Handelsblatt. So far, however, the Chancellery has been slowing down on this issue.

In the Defense Committee, Chancellor Olaf Scholz (SPD) emphasized that he did not want to rule out the delivery of Leopard 2 tanks, provided the Americans and French also got their Abrams or Leclerc tanks on the way.

“In our FDP opinion, it’s time to take the first step and not always wait for the allies to do it for us,” said Strack-Zimmermann. “The Americans expect Germany to find its role in Europe. The Ukraine war is happening on our doorstep, not off the US coast.”
