Game companies print money: how much did EA earn in 2021?

The pandemic, which has been affecting the whole world for about two years, has left millions and maybe even billions alone with computers, phones and game consoles, together with quarantines and bans. While people who were affected by the virus and had to stay at home spent their time with their hobbies, if any, those whose hobbies were limited or could not apply during the quarantine period spent months with smart products. This situation benefited technology companies, mostly game companies.

EA Games, one of the world’s largest game producers and distribution companies, has announced its data for the third quarter of 2021. The company, which includes FIFA, Battlefield, Madden, Apex Legends and many more games, left their mouths open with its revenues.

EA Games, which announced its financial report yesterday and documented its third quarter revenues, had a much more successful three months compared to previous periods. The company’s revenues increased by 7 percent in the third quarter. This shows that the revenue corresponds to 1.79 billion dollars. In addition, the company’s net bookings increased at the same rate. Net reservation, in which an increase of 7 percent is observed, can be defined as the net amount of the company’s products and services sold digitally or physically during the period. With this rise, EA Games had $2.58 billion in net bookings.

While it was confirmed by the reports that the stable growth in Apex Legends, FIFA and Madden fronts brought big money to EA, it became clear that they could not get the expected return from Battlefield 2012. As a matter of fact, company officials admitted that this game was disappointing in their own words and said that this year it gave EA difficulties. Andrew Wilson, CEO of EA Games, said:We had a challenge in Q3 as the release of Battlefield 2042 didn’t live up to expectations.” he stated.
