Fuest for exploration: No sustainable financial policy

Berlin The President of the Ifo Institute, Clemens Fuest, describes the exploratory paper by the SPD, Greens and FDP as “remarkable”. Fuest told the Handelsblatt: “In almost all chapters of the paper, the clear priority of the explorers can be seen: climate protection, digitization and the promotion of private and public investments.”

The plan of the possible new coalition to undertake a comprehensive revision of expenditure shows foresight. “It is not just gifts that are given out, instead it should be managed sustainably.”

But Fuest sharply criticizes the plans for the statutory pension insurance. The exploratory paper speaks of stabilizing the pension level at at least 48 percent. At the same time, however, pension cuts should be excluded and the retirement age should not be increased. The economist believes that this cannot work in the face of demographic change.
