Berlin They are bright green, the arms of Franziska Brantner’s glasses. She’s worn it for decades, but the color has taken on a whole new meaning. First of all, one afternoon a few months ago, the Green politician did what is usual for a parliamentary state secretary: she took part in a panel discussion.

In an office building in the less hip part of Berlin’s hip district of Kreuzberg, the focus is on raw materials, the circular economy and recycling. Brantner, who often attracts attention with her leather jacket on the government bench in the Bundestag, is wearing a black turtleneck sweater and blue blazer on this day.

After the discussion, on the way out of the hall, Brantner is slowed down several times. A representative of Deutsche Bahn wants to talk to her about climate-neutral material for rails, an environmental activist calls for more sustainability in the extraction of raw materials.
