Berlin The shortage of skilled workers and workers in Germany is becoming ever greater. On average, there were no suitably qualified unemployed for more than 630,000 vacancies in 2022, according to the competence center for securing skilled workers (Kofa), which is based at the German Economic Institute (IW). The shortage of skilled workers is thus greater than ever before.

However, there is a second negative record that shows the shortage of qualified personnel. Because for the first time the number of people who do not have a vocational qualification has exceeded the 2.5 million mark, as can be seen from the draft of the new vocational training report, which is available to the Handelsblatt.

The federal government is alarmed, especially since the number of unskilled workers is growing steadily. Every missing degree is a missed opportunity, said the parliamentary state secretary in the Ministry of Education, Jens Brandenburg (FDP): “In times of a shortage of skilled workers, we can no longer afford that economically.”
