Alper Gezeravcı will go to the International Space Station (ISS) with the Ax3 mission carried out by Axiom Space company. It is planned that there will be four people in the team to be launched with SpaceX’s Falcon 9 rocket. Gezeravcı will stay at the space station for 14 days, completing Turkey’s first space mission.
However, according to the statement, the date of the mission was postponed due to weather conditions and SpaceX’s launch schedule. to January 17 postponed.
Sharing a post on his social media account on the subject, the Minister of Industry and Technology said, “The Ax3 Mission, in which our first astronaut Alper Gezeravcı will take part, will be affected by adverse weather conditions and SpaceX
“Due to the change in plans, it has been postponed to January 17, 2024.”
The postponed mission represents an important step in Turkey’s space history. Gezeravcı will go on a space journey as Turkey’s first astronaut. It was also reported that preparations will continue until January 17, 2024.
Who is Alper Gezeravcı?
Alper Gezeravcı, who was born in Mersin on December 2, 1979, is an F-16 pilot who has been serving in the Air Forces Command for 21 years. Gezeravcı, who graduated from the Air Force Academy as an Electronics Engineer, completed his master’s degree in Operations Research at the US Air Force Institute of Technology.
