FINDER MK4 features! How is it working?

On February 6, two earthquakes with a magnitude of 7.7 and 7.6, which caused great destruction in 10 provinces in the Southeastern Anatolia region, caused the most loss of life in the history of the Republic. After the destruction caused by the earthquake, the search and rescue activity in which dozens of countries participated was started.

Technologies that facilitate the work of the teams and enable and facilitate the identification of citizens under the rubble were also frequently on the agenda. At this point, one of the prominent devices was the FINDER MK4, which stands out with its advanced features. So how does this technology, shared by NASA, work?

FINDER MK4 features! How is it working?

A small toolbox FINDER MK4, which is large in size, has quite advanced features. Just like the STM DAR behind-the-wall radar system, it can easily detect the location of citizens under debris. However, it does this not by body temperature, but by listening to the heartbeat.

It is possible to use the FINDER MK4 comfortably in the field without drawing power from the mains, thanks to the lithium-ion battery inside the FINDER MK4, which can detect the heartbeat despite 9 meters of rubble heaps and 6 meters of solid concrete by sending low-power microwaves.

How does the behind-the-wall radar system STM DAR technology work?

After the Southeast Anatolian earthquake, it was said that many behind-the-wall radar systems were used in the wreckage area.

The price of this device, developed by NASA and released for industrial use, is at the level of 25 thousand dollars. However, it is said that after the disaster, it was sold to Turkey and Syria for almost half the price, with a price tag of 15 thousand dollars.

In the post made by NASA today, it was said:

“A NASA Spinoff technology called FINDER has been deployed to assist first responders in the wake of devastating earthquakes in Turkey and Syria. This technology has helped rescuers find people trapped under the rubble.”
