Federal states allow events with up to 10,000 visitors – Hesse wants to lift the 2G requirement in retail

The Federal Ministry of the Interior has advocated uniform regulations for spectators in football stadiums. The ministry, which is also responsible for sports, announced on Wednesday that it “would welcome a uniform regulation, not least with a view to cross-state leagues and games in various sports, which appropriately takes into account the ongoing requirements of the pandemic”.

At the federal-state conference on January 24, 2022, the heads of government of the federal states pointed out “that the organization of major events requires a standardization of the existing regulations” and at the same time instructed the heads of the state and senate chanceries of the federal states to to agree on a uniform regulation by February 9, 2022.

Subsequently, however, some federal states had issued new corona regulations. In Bavaria, for example, up to 10,000 people (a maximum of 25 percent of the total capacity) are allowed in the stadiums. The state government in Baden-Württemberg followed with a decision to allow 6,000 people to apply the 2G-plus rule. Because the limit of 750 spectators still applies in North Rhine-Westphalia, Borussia Dortmund, 1. FC Köln and Arminia Bielefeld have applied for the Corona Ordinance to be reviewed by the Higher Administrative Court in Münster.

The Ministry of the Interior does not want to comment on ongoing legal proceedings “out of respect for the court”.
