Berlin Federal Minister of Economics Robert Habeck does not rule out legal measures to save energy as a consequence of reduced gas supplies from Russia. His advance met with a divided response. While the liberal coalition partner signals support, criticism comes from the opposition.

Habeck justified his move with the possibility that the storage volumes would not increase. “Then we will have to take further measures to save, if necessary also by law,” said the Green politician on Thursday in the ARD “Tagesthemen”. The gas storage facilities are currently 56 percent full. That is above average, but not enough.

“We cannot go into the winter with 56 percent,” emphasized the minister. “They must be full. Otherwise we are really open. ”The situation is serious, but the security of supply is currently still guaranteed.
