Fatih Altaylı: Netflix, Amazon Will Broadcast Atatürk Series

When former Show TV General Manager Saner Ayar, who is known to the public as the producer of the Atatürk movie, called me and said, “Brother, we will do a preview of the Atatürk movie to a small group,” I headed to the cinema in Kanyon to watch the production, which created a storm.

First, we heard the production story of the film from Saner.

They took action 3 years ago to make an Ataturk film on the 100th anniversary of the Republic. Their first agreement was made with the US pay television channel HBO. HBO, which in my opinion is the address for the highest quality productions, liked the script of the film and decided to purchase it. However, they wanted it to be a 6-episode series, not a movie.

The script, which was the result of a long and intense research, was written accordingly and the shooting phase has begun.

However, HBO suddenly gave up purchasing the series. “They decided to stop buying TV series from outside the USA.”

Thereupon, the producers started looking for a new publisher. This time, Disney Plus was interested in the series.

The series was shot in original locations, especially Turkey and Macedonia, at a cost of 17.5 million dollars. 3 thousand stuntmen and tens of thousands of extras were used. Shooting, which lasted for months, could only be carried out in the morning hours, in the 1-hour period following sunrise, in order to have the appropriate light for the dramatic narrative of the film.

And then came the news that you all know. Disney Plus stopped streaming the movie.

The problem was solved to some extent with the efforts of Fox TV executives in Turkey. It was decided that the series would be broadcast on Fox TV Turkey and the film version would be released in cinemas in Turkey in two parts.

However, there were other developments in the meantime.

The Ataturk movie is released in cinemas not only in Turkey, but also in Europe, including Central Europe, and in many countries in East Asia.

Negotiations are ongoing for screening in the United States and Russia.

And Amazon and Netflix platforms will show the series, which Disney Plus decided not to broadcast, to all their subscribers worldwide.

So, as you can see, just like Atatürk, the Atatürk film manages to overcome all kinds of difficulties and emerges stronger from the blows it has received, preparing to appear before the public in cinemas all over the world and to be released on two platforms.
