Facebook releases its cryptocurrency wallet app

Facebook, one of the most popular social media applications in the world, has launched a new service. The platform, which includes Instagram and WhatsApp and came to the fore with the recent crashes, has developed a digital wallet application in line with the innovations required by the era.

Collaborating with Coinbase and launching Novi, which it announced two years ago, Facebook aims to keep users safe and easily transfer their cryptocurrencies. The application, which was launched in the testing phase today, was in the project phase for a long time.

Facebook Calibra handed over seat: Novi

Facebook from Calibra will continue on its way with its new wallet. With the digital wallet Novi, the company has also shown that the work on crypto money continues.

Facebook started its journey in 2017

Facebook, which first started working on cryptocurrency and blockchain in 2017, announced its first crypto project in 2019, called Libra. Libra, a cryptocurrency, had the support of many large companies. However, in a statement in July, Facebook said that Libra will not be released until all legal concerns are met. After the development, PayPal, eBay, Mastercard, Stripe, Visa and Marcado Pago and Booking Holdings withdrew from the project.

Then came Facebook Novi

Working on its own crypto wallet with the developments, Facebook changed the name of Libra to Diem and announced the digital wallet called Calibra. However, Calibra’s name was updated in the future. The company’s new service began to be called Novi, which is a combination of the first two letters of the Latin words Novus (New) and Via (Road).

Novi, which has been a project for a long time, has started to be used in two countries today. The cryptocurrency wallet, whose testing process has begun in the USA and Guatemala, can be used with UDSP, the dollar of stablecoin issuer Paxos. Coinbase will also provide custody and protection services for the program.

In the statement made on Novi’s official Twitter account, it was said that delays and fees were bid farewell. The following statements were included in the shared tweet:

“Say ‘goodbye’ to delays and fees and ‘hello’ to Novi, which is now available on the App Store and Google Play in Guatemala and most of the US.”
