Europe is a pioneer when it comes to energy efficiency

Paris The International Energy Agency (IEA) sees heat pumps and other key technologies for more efficient energy consumption on the rise. The organization wrote in a report published on Wednesday that heat pump sales increased by ten percent worldwide and by almost 40 percent in Europe in 2022. The global advances in energy saving measures could at least have slowed the rise in CO2 emissions – but they are not enough.

“We are experiencing great momentum in energy efficiency,” said IEA boss Fatih Birol. The member states of the organization have used the energy crisis to initiate new or improved efficiency measures. Birol was speaking at the launch of an international conference on energy efficiency that brought together government officials and business leaders from more than 80 countries in Versailles, southwest Paris.
