EU debt rules: France calls for euro reform

Paris, Berlin, Brussels The coalition negotiations between the SPD, the Greens and the FDP in Berlin have not yet been concluded, as France is already formulating a clear expectation of the future federal government: Paris is calling for a reform of the EU debt rules and is hoping for Germany’s support in the coming year when France takes over the Council Presidency.

It is a matter of decisive questions, said Finance Minister Bruno Le Maire in an interview with Handelsblatt: “Do we continue to apply rules such as the obsolete 60 percent limit for national debt, or do we try together and calmly to think about new rules?”
