Budapest In the small town of Göd, Hungary wants to create an ecological turnaround – at the expense of the population. Samsung opened the first battery factory for e-mobility in Europe there in 2017. The South Korean company has repeatedly expanded the factory since then. It is currently being expanded, including noise, sometimes poor working conditions and dirt.
“We are suffering,” says Göd’s mayor Balogh Csaba. His community hardly benefits from Samsung’s investments and instead has many disadvantages.
This also has to do with Prime Minister Viktor Orban’s economic policy. The government is currently promoting the production of e-batteries to the best of its ability. Not only Samsung is investing in Hungary; other Asian companies have also recently declared that they want to build a factory in the country or expand existing operations.
