Frankfurt It’s scientifically proven that happy people get happier when they make more money. Up to an income of $500,000, happiness increases almost in line with income.
However, this only applies to people who are already happy. People who are fundamentally unhappy do not feel any happier than before with assets of $90,000 or more.
That’s what US psychologist Matthew Killingsworth found out. For his study, he surveyed 33,391 employed adults in the United States last year.
The US psychologist writes in the journal “Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences” (PNAS) about the study: “For the happiest 30 percent of people […] Happiness increases at an accelerated rate with an income of more than $100,000.” Very happy people therefore benefited more from higher income than unhappy people.
