But some chargers that we see especially in laptop computers consist of 2 parts. the first part of it is just an extension cord. This part is connected to a relatively large adapter, and the cable from it conducts electricity to the computer.
If the plug-in cable is not connected to the adapter, it does not consume electricity. Similarly, our extension sockets do not consume electricity if they do not have anything connected to them. Therefore, electricity consumption starts first in the adapter part.
Of course, if a phone, smartwatch or computer isn’t charging, these adapters consume power so low that it’s barely noticeable on the bill. To give an average amount, a smartphone adapter will consume no more than a few TL per year.
However, when we look at the household, there are 5 to 10 chargers for various products in each house. When all these devices are plugged in, the amount that will be reflected in the bill at the end of the year will increase at the same rate. Of course, even in the most extreme example, it will cost 50-60 TL.
But here we need to look at the general. If each of the 20 million households in Turkey were to pay such amounts for the electricity they do not use, an annual bill would be close to 100 million TL. This not only has a negative impact on the economy, but also on the carbon dioxide released into the atmosphere.
