Berlin According to the DIW, the corona restrictions are bringing the recovery of the German economy to a standstill for the time being. “In the final quarter, the German economy will probably shrink slightly,” said the German Institute for Economic Research (DIW) in Berlin on Tuesday.

The service providers in particular are directly affected. For example, under the 2G rule, in many places inns are only allowed to provide their services to vaccinated and convalescent people, in counties with particularly high incidences there is even a general ban on accommodation. “

All in all, the added value of the affected industries is likely to be cut back massively, as it was last winter – although the bottom line is that the progress made in vaccination should mean more activity than about a year ago, ”said DIW economic expert Simon Junker. Another uncertainty factor is the highly contagious omicron variant of the coronavirus.

The researchers estimate the prospects for the industry better. “In view of the lush order situation, the industrial engine will start sooner or later and the economy will noticeably stimulate – due to the ongoing, massive delivery bottlenecks, it will probably not be until later – in the course of the coming year,” said Junker.
