Disney Plus, which first started broadcasting at the end of 2019, exactly one year ago (14 June) entered Turkey. We do not yet know how successful it is and how it ranks in the market compared to its competitors such as Netflix and Amazon Prime. But it has managed to compete tooth-to-toe with Netflix around the world.
In Turkey, it has been very popular with users as it contains dozens of different content such as original Turkish productions, Marvel series, especially new Star Wars series and movies. Moreover, the price was around half of Netflix.
Infuriating statement from Musk: Twitter has a usage limit!
Elon Musk described the problems experienced with his post on Twitter as a “temporary emergency measure”.
While users thought that everything was going well, Disney Plus took a sudden decision and removed all original Turkish productions from the platform. The fate of the content that is currently being shot and announced to be published is unknown.
ShiftDelete.Net founder Hakkı Alkan stated that there may be a different aspect of the issue that we could never imagine and that he contacted Disney to get an official response:
“Disney+, which was threatened by the Armenian communities in America a few days ago, has removed the Turkish content today. Hopefully it’s a technical issue and he didn’t make a wrong choice. I contacted the company to get an official response. When updated information becomes available, I will share it immediately.”
The community that threatens Disney Plus on the subject is The Armenian National Committee of America-ANCA. In the post made by this organization, it was said that Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, the founder of the Turkish Republic, committed genocide by killing millions of people from 7 different ethnic groups under the Christian title.
Of course, it is clearly seen that the people sharing this post are exploiting feelings and power by revealing untrue historical information. But since the lobbying activities are strong in the USA, their hands may have reached this far. For now, a statement from Disney Plus is awaited.
