Digital Platform Views Overtake TV in the US for the First Time

The competition between traditional media represented by TV and new media represented by digital platforms continues. In Turkey, most of the digital platforms we use, such as Netflix and Disney+, are US-based; Some of our TV channels are affiliated with US companies. That’s why we take a close look at these research results in the USA.

Digital content platforms surpassed cable TV for the first time, according to the July 2022 results of a monthly survey conducted across the US by media research company Nielsen.

Last week, research results were published showing that 69% of the population in Turkey continues to watch TV. Although these results have not been compared with digital platforms, they are effective in showing that the breaking point in the USA has not yet been experienced in Turkey.

  • NOTE: Cable TV is not as widely used in Turkey as it is in the USA. But for the US, cable TV is a direct competitor to digital platforms. In Turkey, antenna and satellite broadcasts are also included in this competition.

According to the results of the research, Netflix, YouTube, Hulu and Amazon; In July, they had the largest share of views in the USA. In fact, they’ve already been the view leader for the past four months in a row, but their views in July were up 0.4%. watching cable TV for the first time also passed.
