Dusseldorf Deutsche Telekom remains on course for growth. In the USA and Germany – its two most important markets – the group was able to win millions of customers and expects further growth for the current year. For 2022, an adjusted operating result without leasing expenses (Ebitda AL) of 36.5 billion euros is targeted, the Bonn-based Dax group announced on Thursday.

Leaving aside special effects, this would correspond to an increase of five percent. “We’re not letting up,” said company boss Timotheus Höttges, whose contract was prematurely extended by five years in December. Telekom relies primarily on its subsidiary T-Mobile US, which had already grown strongly in previous years.

In the past year, sales increased by 7.7 percent to 108.8 billion euros. The operating result (EBIT) increased by 2 percent to 13.1 billion euros in 2021. Telekom has thus exceeded the expectations of many analysts.

In the European business, the group’s Ebitda AL exceeded the four billion euro mark for the first time. The radio tower business also made progress. Sales increased organically in 2021 by 5.4 percent to 1.1 billion euros. The division now has 40,600 locations. Telekom is currently actively recruiting prospective buyers. On the capital market, a conclusion is expected before the end of the year.

The IT subsidiary T-Systems continues to worry. Sales fell to around 4 billion euros. Things continue to look bleak for the future: incoming orders fell by 8.5 percent to 4.17 billion euros compared to the previous year. As became known at the end of last year, Telekom is preparing to separate from T-Systems. Insiders expect an initial decision by summer.
